Chamber Supports Tourism Drive
20-Jul-2011Noosa Chamber supports whole of Sunshine Coast tourism drive
The Noosa Chamber of Commerce & Industry fully supports the efforts of the Sunshine Coast Tourism Board to integrate and market the wonderful region as a whole.
Noosa Chamber President Cark Beck says each region of the coast and hinterland has its own indentify and tourism promotional strategy, but each will achieve even more if everyone also works together to promote the whole region.
“Even though the Noosa Chamber is strongly supporting de-amalgamation, Noosa is not some stand-alone entity. It is one of a number of unique regions which make up the Sunshine Coast, which also strongly support and would continue to promote,” Mr Beck said.
“We are supporting de-amalgamation on two basic issues. First is Town Planning and second is the incredible workload heaped on our elected representatives with such large areas to represent. This is, in itself, a major concern,” he said.
“On town planning, Noosa as a community decided back in the 1980s and 1990s, that we wanted amongst other things, a height limit of three stories and low residential densities, no traffic lights except at schools, and a whole range of provisions in regard to signage; plus as much National Parks and greenery as possible.
“This was not to criticise other local government areas, but it was our preferred choice. We respect the rights of other communities to choose otherwise, and in fact, enjoy the variety,” he said.
Mr Beck said each local tourist board will add its own particular flavour to its promotion as and where it deems fit, but there are many jewels in the crown which is the Sunshine Coast. He highlights the potential joint promotion of the spectacular views from Mary Cairncross Reserve over the Glasshouse Mountains from Caloundra across to Bribie Island; to the views from Noosa Heads towards Double Island Point and all points in between.
“Magnificent indeed. And what about our glorious hinterland with its magic villages from Mapleton, Flaxton thru to Montville and Maleny, the Obi Obi and the vineyards in the valleys beyond.
“Who can have visitors stay and not take them to the Ginger Factory and the Australia Zoo to name a few. It is a never ending kaleidoscope of brilliant attractions of which, we should all be immensely proud,” he said.
“Let us therefore, ignore those who would seek to cast our differences as being something negative but rather champion our diversity and support each other in every way possible,” Mr Beck said.
