VOLUNTARY BUSINESS MENTORS SERVICE

The service we are offering

Wanting to be a mentor?

DETAILS

What We Do

We are offering a voluntary business mentoring service for small businesses, with mentors drawn from the business leaders now retired or semi-retired with two hours to spare a week. The cost to the business being mentored is $200 for one year, and you are required to become a member of the Noosa Chamber, which is included in that charge. You may be matched with a number of mentors over that year, depending on your needs.

We are just setting up the service now. We invite you to register your interest to be a mentor or a mentee. You must already be in business and have no more than 25 employees. Contact annadaysnews@gmail.com. This is a not-for-profit service with low overheads; however, if you are interested in sponsoring the service, this will contribute to the administration for the service.

Our mentors are very senior business people who are retired, semi-retired or have a couple of hours a week to assist. Noosa Shire is fortunate to have many of the most senior business people retiring to the area, or working part-time in directorships or contracts. These are primarily the people that will provide our services. There is an exception to this and that is in the IT area where young mentors might be provided to ensure they have the right expertise. Each mentor is referenced checked, and must NOT try to sell their services to the person they are mentoring: "the mentee". This will be monitored through surveys sent to the mentors and the mentees.

The Voluntary Business Mentors Service was and continues to be developed by Anna Day with the Noosa Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in association with the Sunshine Coast Council, and the Peregian Springs Golf Club. Anna is mentored by a senor business person on the Coast and also by the CEO of Business Mentors New Zealand.

It is recognised that a number of business management consultants, business coaches and other business advisers are also operating in this field and we aim to work cooperatively with these commercial providers.

Is There a Cost to be a Mentor?
No. There is no cost.
Who Can be Assigned a Mentor?

Any business with no more than 25 staff might seek a mentor. Initially, priority will be given to Sunshine Coast business people who are currently trading.

A separate service is available for those seeking a business concept; or at the very initial stages of developing a business.

What are the Benefits of Working With a Voluntary Mentor/Mentors?
  • Independent, impartial advice
  • A fresh perspective and a sounding board for new ideas
  • Help to implement improvements
  • Suggestions and possibly introductions to appropriate contacts & financial resources
  • Possibly, a person to accompany you to appointments
  • A person with whom you can discuss the challenges, identify strategies and set new goals
What the Mentor Does Not do
  • Our mentors do not charge for their services
  • Our mentors are not seeking a position as a paid management consultant/coach/service provider
  • The mentor might choose to invest in your business or become an employee or board member. But this is NOT the guaranteed service being offered and such involvement must be disclosed to the Voluntary Mentoring Service to ensure transparency (Disclosed on a confidential basis.)
